Moving palletised freight with Nextep Solutions is safe, secure, and cost effective.
Service Description
Follow these Next Steps to ensure your freight is prepared correctly before collection, for safe, secure delivery of all your palletised freight shipments! 1. MAKE SURE IT’S A SUITABLE PALLET • Robust and suitable for the type of goods being carried • No missing boards or chocks • Four-way entry accessible from all sides 2. MAKE SURE THAT THE LOAD IS PROPERLY STACKED • Products should be properly stacked and secured onto the base or goods will continue to move around during transit • Stability of goods on the pallet is also important and depends on the type of goods being transported • Liquids, paint, glass, ceramics and wine/spirits, all need careful attention when preparing for transportation • Ensure that heavier cartons or boxes are placed on the bottom layer • Ensure that the weight of subsequent layers does not crush the lower layers 3. MAKE SURE THE LOAD IS PROPERLY WRAPPED • Secure each layer with tape or strapping • If necessary, place cardboard sheets between each layer to avoid movement during transit • Wherever possible goods should be strapped heat shrunk or shrink wrapped for secure transit • Shrink wrapped pallet covers hold the load securely • Corner and edge protectors secure and stabilize the load 4. CONSIDER USING A “PALLET PACK” • A cardboard lid, sleeve and tray attached to a wooden pallet • Pallet pack are ideal for protecting small cartons and can be reused many times • Pallet trays and lids are perfect for protecting bag traffic and fragile boxes 5. MAKE SURE EACH PALLET DOES NOT EXCEED THE MAXIMUM WEIGHT LIMIT • The maximum weight for a tail-lift delivery is 100kg per pallet. Sometimes a small goods vehicle is required to make the delivery. In these cases, the maximum weight limit per pallet is 700kg. 6. TAKE SPECIAL CARE WITH HIGH VALUE GOODS • High value goods should be black shrink wrapped and security (tape) sealed • The shrink wrap around the base of the pallet is important as this anchors the cartons or goods to the pallet • Make sure that there are several layers of wraps around the carton and the base of the pallet • Shrink-wrap continuously from the base up to the top layer and then corner to corner over the top of the pallet • Good quality shrink wrap with a thickness of not less than 20 microns is recommended • 50mm polypropylene packaging tape can be used to tie in the layers of cartons on the pallet • If the goods are non-stackable or fragile, label accordingly and consider the use of pallet cap.
